Carol Phillips Whitt is a professional artist working from her studio/home in Gahanna, OH. Her printmaking and painting background (Rochester Institute of Technology, Fine Arts) is evidenced in her current work in hand built ceramic forms.

Carol’s personal style in clay is also enriched by her 10 year concentration in contemporary art quilts. As in her hand dyed fabric, a rich surface treatment is evident in her clay work. Many organic materials find their way as prints onto the clay’s surface, such as herbs, wild flowers, and corn cobs. With the design thus imprinted, clay slabs are “pieced and stitched” together, using the “seams” as part of the composition.

Whitt enjoys teaching hand building classes and workshops and holds Open Studios in her home. She was the founder of the Whatever Works Art Space in Granville. She is the founding director of the vibrant community art space as well as the Granville Makers’ Market, an art/craft venue that mirrors the Farmers’ Market every Saturday throughout each summer. Carol believes that people who make and enjoy art together contribute to happier and healthier communities.
