Artist, Christy Chen has been painting for 16 years. She has sold paintings to all 50 States. She attended the University of Kentucky for Art and was selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Arts when in High School. Her father, who passed away when she was 15, was an artist and a great source of inspiration for her pieces. Her two older sisters are also artists but each is very different and has unique styles of their own.
Growing up with a father who was an artist, I learned a lot about art and how it impacts others. People paint for many reasons, to escape, to relax, or just because they have to, it becomes part of their soul, their reason to exist. I am one of those artists, I have to paint. I couldn’t live without that outlet. It is hard to express in words.
A few quotes I came across seem to sum it up best:
If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.
~Edward Hopper
The only time I feel alive is when I'm painting.
~Vincent Van Gogh
People who love art really do need it in the same way they need oxygen.
~Martin Zimet
I have two daughters of my own, although only 4 and 7, they love to paint and watch me paint. I hope I have passed on the joy and love of art to them like my father did to me and my sisters. With art there are no mistakes, no rights or wrongs, it is expressing whatever you feel and whatever you want others to feel when they look at it. There is nothing like it in the world when someone falls in love with one of your paintings and just has to have it. Leaving a piece of you behind for others to enjoy is a true blessing.
