Dan Miller's first solo show at Hayley Gallery entitled "Arrival" is on display through July 20.

"Painting has always been a huge part of my life; it is just what I have always done. Four years ago I made some major changes in my life and painting became something that I could no longer do in a meaningful way. Although I ceased working for some time, I never stopped thinking about painting, I never stopped composing or seeing them in my head and I never stopped looking at the world with the eyes that I paint with. I just couldn’t slip into that place from which I paint. This gave me time to think about the vocabulary of my painting, what it meant, how it could be expanded and what was no longer relevant to me. So this body of work has really been about not only finding my way back to painting, but also finding my way back to a place of normalcy in my life. This has allowed me to take inventory in my work; I have picked up where I left off in some places, traced down ideas to see if they still belong and crept into some new territories. I still find myself attracted to painting moments. These liminal moments are the places I like to be…little pieces of time that are in between conversations, driving, work, parenting and other responsibilities of life. They are meaningful to me for many reasons but I hope the viewer also finds them meaningful. It is my hope that the viewer cannot only appreciate my paintings as objects of art but also be affected by them on a deeper level; I want them to cross that threshold."
