Jaye taught art at Midview Junior High School in Grafton, Ohio for five years, then taught at Bluffton High School. After graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1967 with a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Sculpture, he began his 37 year career of teaching Art at Bluffton University.

During this time he served as chairman of the Art Department and was instrumental in bringing the Art Department curriculum into the contemporary world, introducing new courses in airbrush, paper-making, figure drawing with the life model, lithography, intaglio, silkscreen and relief printmaking, as well as welding and casting metals in sculpture. Under Jaye’s direction, Bluffton University sponsored the Scholastic High School Art Awards program for many years.

In his life as an artist Jaye says he does not separate his life and art—they are one. Jaye has lived with his wife, Susan, in Lima, Ohio since 1967. Both are retired from Bluffton University where Susan taught in the Education Department. Son Michael and daughter's Kathe and Lisa (David Vottero) reside in Columbus, Ohio as well as grandchildren Chloe, Jacob and Elijah Vottero.
