John Hegener was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and pursued art from an early age. John went on to study painting as an undergraduate in Cincinnati at UC's College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning. Based on his portfolio, John was then accepted into an artist residency at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Tennessee. During this time, a seemingly unfortunate occurance of paint solvent allergies redirected his artistic expression to stone sculpture.
Many of John's pieces have been seen and sold in galleries and exhibitions from Pennsylvania to New Mexico. His works are part of both public and private collections. John continues to pursue his talents today in stone carving and also acrylic painting. "What I feel motivated to do in my work is to take the material somewhere it hasn't been by expressing a creative energy that would otherwise go unseen."
