MEET SUSAN AT THE GALLERY ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 29 FOR HER HOLIDAY TRUNK SHOW.

I am a bench artist designing jewelry. I think I can blame my Uncle Bob for my addiction to jewelry. He was the buyer for the Union, a swanky department store in Columbus, Ohio. I always looked forward to his presents, a new bauble to wear.

I majored in Fine Arts in high school and college so putting coloured stones and beads together was second nature for me. I started with a local bead store that showed me some techniques to make some pieces for my self. I loved making and wearing my designs. When my work started selling, I wanted more techniques, diving deeper into this field.

My Grecian earrings are a modern design but with the same aesthetics as earrings found in the tombs of Egypt. It is a shape that has lasted centuries. When I am forging the earrings, watching the metal move is fascinating. My rings are constructed as they did back 7000 years ago. All my pieces have a primitive motif plus they are simple and clean in design.

There will be more techniques to learn and conquer. It all adds another dimension to my work.
